As the crisis in PDP Ajeromi/Ifelodun continues to fester, the Ward J
executives, have suspended indefinitely the party’s LGA Ex-officio,
Owolabi Lukmon. The letter of suspension made available to Inside Ajeromi/Ifelodun News and signed by the Ward J chairman, M.W Dawodu and Secretary, Lateef Rafiu accused Owolabi of anti –party activities as he
was alleged to have formed a parallel executive which is against the
party’s constitution and other undisciplined attitudes.
The LGA executives decried that several efforts at correcting Owolabi of his misdemeanors several years ago were fruitless as he refuses to take corrections and the Ward Executives were left with no other options than the suspension.
The letter reads in part, ‘’the Ward J executives of our party after due
deliberations and consultations over many allegations of anti – party
activities and usurpation of the powers of the Ward Chairman , etc,
the party has unanimously decided to suspend Mr. Owolabi Lukmon
indefinitely from all party activities’’.
Those present at the meeting where the suspension decision was taken include: Chinedu Ezugha – the LGA Publicity Secretary, Joymary Onwuemeh- Women Leader, Friday
Christopher –Organizing Secretary, Fatai Shakiru-Treasurer, Ibrahim
Rafiu-Publicity Secretary, Emeka Atokwu-Youth Leader, Pastor K.C
Progress-Legal Adviser, Friday Christopher-Organizing Secretary, Joyce
Igbegbulam Ex-officio, Ifeanyi Onyeama-Ex officio and Babatubnde
Inside Ajeromi/Ifelodun’s several efforts to reach Owolabi Lukmon for comments was not successful, but close sources from him said, he countered the accusations leveled against him, tagging the suspension as a mere joke. He said the party leadership in
the local government ought to do their investigation properly before
coming out with such weighty allegations.
Reacting to the suspension, a chieftain of the party in the area, Are
Taju Balogun said, the action of the Ward executives is more like a
coup as they are playing out a script,.
His words, “though, it is the ward that has the right to suspend any erring member but for it
to be effective, the LGA has to ratify the suspension. I see this as a
coup, a lot of them may be jealous and envious about the Lukmon, as he
is said to be appropriating everything to himself, but we are on top of the issue’’.
Another Chieftain of the Party alleged the suspension may not be unconnected to the Hon
Rita Orji and Chief Francis Chima’s issues on one hand and Owolabi’s ambition to run for the
Chairmanship seat of the Ward and his change of camp from Barrio group to Team Legit and his growing influence in the party in Ajeromi/Ifelodun and its environ and this may have caused scare among other party members who may not want to be kept at the background of the
party’s activities. He also alleged that the suspension may have been
triggered by those that want to cause crisis in the camp of Chief Francis Chima.
However, a call to the LGA Chairman, Engr Mathew Abougunde on the issue did not elicit a blunt reaction as he simply said, “we need discipline in the Party” but without specific reference to the letter nor the suspension issue.
Another Chieftain of the Party denied that the suspension was a result of Owolabi joining Team Legit but rather a general decision of the Ward Executives to an erring member. In a related development, Hon Rita Orji was said to have appealed to Party members to spare mentioning her name to the issue as she is not a member of ward J.
Investigation by our paper, shows that Lukmon may not be the only member likely to suffer the same fate but other high ranking members of the party may be sanctioned sooner as we reliably
gathered that another party chieftain, may likely receive the sledge
