IFELODUN POLITICIANS GRUMBLE OVER #ENDSARS LEVY

There is a strong  feeling of grumbling in Ifelodun LCDA among the political class over what some people described as extortion by the Council Chairman Hon Fatai Ajidagba and angst among the residents following the monumental  destruction that happened during the #ENDSARS protest.

The Chairman was said to have recently called an emergency meeting of all the stakeholders including National Union of Road Transport members, APC party top members and their Apex leadership and Chairmanship aspirants in the area last Saturday.

At the meeting, Ajidagba was said to have briefed them of the security challenge and his intention to deploy members of O’odua People’s Congress to guard the Council. He asked for donations and contributions from stakeholders. He promised to dole out N500, 000 and asked Hon Saaid OLumo, the House of Assembly member and Member of the House of Reps Hon Kolawole Taiwo to donate the same amount while the Chairmanship aspirants were asked to bring N100, 000 each.

Inside Ajeromi/ Ifelodun News gathered that most of these people had already sent in their own money. However, there have been side talks and questions by the political class as to what happened to the huge security vote that the Chairman has been taking all these years.

Most of the Politicians that spoke on conditions of anonymity strongly condemn the act as extortion and an assumption that the political classes in Ifelodun are dull headed. They argued that there have not been any serious security issues in the past and yet the Chairman takes Security votes and so for him to levy them at this fallout is tantamount to thinking that they are all wooden- headed, one of the Chieftains argued.

Another top Politician who said he does not want to incite anybody says besides, “Apart from levying us, nobody knows how much the chairman is paying the OPC people, and in fact the Chairman has been taking all of us for granted”.

However, a legal opinion summarized it thus: It is the Council Chairman’s business because he would have explained to them what he wants to do with the money he asked them to contribute and it was not like forced on the people but If the expenditure were to pass through F &G, the Chairman would have needed to resort to the Councilor’s approval and deliberations.

However, the OPC are having sway in Ajeromi/ Ifelodun since the end of the protest as a result of their bravery in foiling an attempt to burn down the Tolu Police Division by the rampaging youths. They have been guarding the station and they are totally in charge of security at Ifelodun Council, with their arms displayed to the glare of everyone.
